Striped Cup by Taro

$165.00

Taro Makihara was born in 1977 in Hiroshima. He graduated from Hida International Craft School, and the City of Tajimi Pottery Design Institute. He worked at Maebata as a pottery designer from 2000 to 2002, before founding his own studio in 2003 in Tajimi city of Gifu prefecture. In 2021, he moved his studio to Hiroshima city.
All of Taro’s work features a careful design applied by hand - some of his patterns are painted, while most are applied by etching the design with a needle and filling the ridges with zaffer (Gosu in Japanese), a pigment used to dye ceramics. His patterns are drawn freehand, without a draft of the pattern created beforehand. Because of this, each piece of work Taro creates is one-of-a-kind.
